Halal Food |
Islam places a very strong emphasis on cleanliness in everything,
including in the area of food and drink. The Qur'an has numerous
injunctions instructing Muslims to choose and consume good and wholesome
foodstuffs.
The meaning of the word Halal is: "Permitted, allowed, authorised, approved, sanctioned, lawful, legal, legitimate or ilicit." When used in relation to food or drink, in any form whatsoever, it means that it is permitted and fit for consumption by Muslims. The opposite of Halal is Haram. In the selection of food and drink, Islam has laid down three very important guidelines, namely:
